About Goshin Ryu

There is so much to say about how the name of Goshin Ryu Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do came to exist, when Sensei Luis Ruiz and Sensei Bernardo Reynoso had conversations regarding a teaching program for both of their schools, they had an idea of combining Sensei Luis's Traditional Karate and Sensei Bernardo's competition Karate, they wanted to deliver the best of both worlds to their students.

Later in their planning they began conversations about how to help Sensei Luis and his school, he was leaving for a military training for 2 months on January 10, 2005 and had no one to cover for him, after a couple of hours of trading thoughts they could not come up with any schedule to teach the students in the then called Shotokan Karate Center in Brooklyn N.Y. Founded in June of 2002.

Sensei Reynoso who was looking to move his school then called Zanshin Ryu Shotokan Karate-Do Traditional in Manhattan N.Y. founded in January of 2002 to another location therefore he could not teach in Brooklyn due to commitments to his own school, they then decided to join forces and work in the Brooklyn School and close the Manhattan school, this way they would both be able to teach and enjoy some free time.

On December, 12th 2005he Brooklyn school opened with its new name picked by sensei Luis, Zanshin Ryu Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do, which name was very similar to the original Manhattan school name; later into the month the Manhattan school was re-opened by Sensei Luis and Sensei Reynoso due to the fact that the instructors that took over the Manhattan school could not teach there, The Manhattan School re-opened with its new name and with three instructors working hand in hand to create a strong and complete teaching method for the men, women and children of New York City.

When Sensei Luis Ruiz Returned from the Military training in South Carolina on the 28th day of February 2005, he again took control of his school and began teaching as usual, In addition Sensei Luis began using his new school name Goshin Ryu Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do. The new name was chosen by Sensei Luis and the help of Sensei Castillo.

Sensei Luis A. Ruiz brings more than 25 years of Martial Arts experience to his school; among the styles he has practiced are Tae kwon Do, Kung-Fu, Jujitsu, and Shorinji-ryu. Sensei Luis A. Ruiz would like to extend a special thanks to the instructors that made it possible for him to keep his school open, through his military obligations, special thanks to Sensei Luis Castillo and Sensei Bernardo Reynoso; I could not have done it without you.
